Structural analysis and detection of optimal cell surface localization of labyrinthin, a pan-adenocarcinoma target, was studied with respect to adenocarcinoma specificity vs. normal and non-adenocarcinoma cells. Patient-derived tissue microarray immunohistochemistry (IHC) was performed on 729 commercially prepared tissue blocks of lung, colon, breast, pancreas, prostate, and ovary cancers combined, plus a National Cancer Institute (NCI) tissue microarray derived from another 236 cases. The results confirmed that anti-labyrinthin mouse monoclonal MCA 44-3A6 antibody recognized adenocarcinomas, but not normal or non-adenocarcinoma cancer cells. The consensus of multiple topology analysis programs on labyrinthin (255 amino acids) estimate a type II cell membrane associated protein with an N-terminus signal peptide. However, because the labyrinthin sequence is enveloped within the 758 amino acids of the intracellular aspartyl/asparaginyl beta-hydroxylase (ASPH), a purported tumor associated antigen, standard IHC study also raises a controversial issue on the extent, specificity, and usefulness of ASPH as an adenocarcinoma tumor-associated antigen.The goal of this study is to use the TLC-densitometric method to determine the concentration of catechin, pyrocatechol, and quercetine in gambir block extracts in a reliable and efficient manner. The best eluent is a mixture of chloroform ethyl acetate glacial acetic acid (442). The concentration of catechin, pyrocatechol and quercetine in gambir block was found to be 25.50 ± 3.13, 0.91 ± 0.60 and 0.83 ± 0.34% (w/w) w/w respectively. The linearity was obtained between 750-2500, 50-350, and 50-350 μg/spot. 12.49-41.63, 0.48-1.60, 3,85-12.83 μg/spots were found to represent the LOD and LOQ, respectively. The proposed approach exhibited great sensitivity, precision, and accuracy, as well as strong linearity.This study investigated the pathogenesis of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) using histological methods that are commonly used for atherosclerotic vascular disease (ASVD). 1 normal, 3 early dry AMD, and 1 late dry AMD eyes were obtained from the Lions Eye Bank of Oregon and systematically dissected. They were stained with hematoxylin and eosin, Oil red O, Masson, Elastica van Gieson, Alizarin red, and Prussian blue. Additionally, the normal and late dry AMD eyes were immunostained for a-smooth muscle actin, CD45, and CD68 with Nile red and DAPI. Correlations were found between severity of AMD and lipid accumulation in the deep sclera (+), numbers of drusen between the Bruch’s membrane and retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) (+), amount of collagen in the deep sclera (+), and amount of elastin in the deep sclera (-) (P less then 0.1). Geographic atrophy, RPE detachment, and abnormal capillary shape and distribution in the choriocapillaris were observed in the fovea of late AMD. There were no stenosis, plaque, hemorrhage, and calcification. Additionally, late AMD tended to have higher smooth muscle thicknesses of the choroidal vascular walls, lower numbers of T lymphocytes in the choroid, and higher numbers of macrophages near the RPE and in the choroid relative to normal (P less then 0.1). Macrophages-derived foam cells were detected near the Bruch’s membrane in late AMD. Therefore, the present study showed many histological characteristics of ASVD in AMD, which suggests an association between them; however, there were also some histological characteristics of ASVD that were not found in AMD, which indicates that there exist pathogenic differences between them. The results generally support the vascular model of AMD, but some details still need clarification.The study was conducted to investigate the effect of spatial variation, alkali treatment and the volume of extractant on yield and gel strength of agar for three Gracilaria species (G. salicornia, G. edulis and G. corticata) collected from the Tanzanian coast (Dar es Salaam, Tanga and Zanzibar). Treated and untreated G. corticata showed the highest yield (27 ± 0.7 % and 26.2 ± 1.3 % for treated and untreated, respectively), followed by G. salicornia then G. edulis. G. salicornia collected from Zanzibar showed the highest mass yield (22.9 ± 4.3 % for treated) followed by those collected from Tanga. Varying the volume for extraction showed no significant difference in mass yield where the p-value was >0.05. The highest gel strength was recorded from treated G. salicornia collected from Tanga (495 ± 29.5 gcm-2). Gel strength varied significantly between species. Spatial variability showed a significant difference in gel strength; the sample collected from Tanga showed the highest gel strength, followed by Zanzibli to be used that will produce maximum yield and gel strength.This study aims to examine the strategies of persuasion used in American-cuisine restaurant menus in Jordan. It seeks to identify the power of language used by advertisers in order to attract and persuade their patrons. It mainly investigates persuasive strategies used in 26 American cuisine restaurant menus by adopting Aristotle’s framework in association with Saussure’s structuralist semiotics. The results showed that American restaurant menus tend to use various types of persuasive appeals that influence patrons emotionally, affect their food choices, and facilitate the process of convincing. The study also concludes that menus include five major appeals, namely sensual, emotional, desire, pleasure, and thought and brand appeals, whose ultimate goal is to provoke some desired mental images to influence the patrons’ food choice decisions.Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease that affects millions of people worldwide. Additionally, digital devices have emerged as a promising tool for improving frequent health data collection, disease monitoring, and supporting public health surveillance. The leveraging of digital data has laid the foundation for developing a new concept of epidemiological study, known as “Digital Epidemiology”. Analyzing real-world data can change the way we observe human behavior and suggest health interventions, as in the case of physical exercise and osteoarthritic patients. Furthermore, large-scale data could contribute to personalized and precision medicine in the future. Herein, an overview of recent clinical applications of wearables for monitoring physical activity in patients with osteoarthritis and the benefits of exploiting real-world data in the context of digital epidemiology are discussed.The spatial and temporal variability of soil properties (fluid composition, structure, and water content) and hydrogeological properties employed for sustainable precision agriculture can be obtained from geoelectrical resistivity methods. For sustainable precision agricultural practices, site-specific information is paramount, especially during the planting season. An integrated one-dimensional (1D) and two-dimensional (2D) electrical resistivity survey have been adopted to characterize the subsoil parameters and delineate the aquifer unit of large farm areas, especially in precision agricultural practices. Also, contamination assessment reveals the soil quality status of farmlands. This study aims to determine the site-specific soil parameters of a commercial farm in Omu-Aran, Northcentral, Nigeria. The subsoil features from the geoelectrical resistivity surveys indicate 3 to 4 distinctive lithology to a depth of 43.4 m into the subsurface of the farm. The ID (Vertical Electrical Sounding) and 2D resistivity inversion models results have revealed the heterogeneity nature of the topsoil, also known as the stone zone comprising of reworked clayey soil and sandy gravelly soil, the weathered/saprolite zone (gravelly sandy/sandy soil), the fractured basement and the fresh basement rock. Contamination factor (Cf), pollution load index (PLI) and Nemerow integrated pollution index (NIPI) were used to assess the contamination index on the farmland. Toxic elements such as arsenic, cadmium, chromium, cobalt, lead, manganese, nickel, and zinc have low to moderate contamination in the farm. The depth of investigation (≤3m) covers the upper root zone of significant crops grown in the area. The findings can assess soil contamination, delineate basement features, subsoil variability, soil profiling, and determine the subsoil hydrological properties.
A better understanding of the epidemiology of helminths in animal hosts is important in order to ensure animal welfare, public health and food safety. The aim of this study was to explore parasitism in common animals in Bangladesh. Perception and understanding of animal owners regarding parasitic diseases management were also assessed.
A total of 550 fecal samples were examined from common animals (cattle, goat, pig, chicken, dog, and cat) across three different areas of Bangladesh (Dhaka, Sylhet, and Chattogram) from January 2020 to March 2021. Associated risk factors were assessed through questionnaire surveys among 50 animal owners. Parasitological assessment was done using the combined sedimentation-flotation method, and factors associated with infection were modeled using mixed-effects logistic regression.

Whereas IVF was traditionally developed to treat people who found they were unable to conceive, the indication for IVF has broadened significantly to include a much wider group of potential patients through a new focus on proactive treatment of future (in)fertilities. This shift combines a number of new trends pertaining to preservation, prediction, private equity and platformization, all of which have gained influence in contemporary assisted reproduction. This article focuses on the emergence of company-sponsored fertility benefits, which combines each of these trends. Whereas fertility benefits – especially egg freezing insurance – have primarily been discussed in terms of women’s empowerment or disenfranchisement, this article instead calls attention to the discursive, clinical and infrastructural shifts in contemporary assisted reproduction that have emerged with the rising popularity of these benefits. The analysis addresses these underdiscussed aspects of fertility benefits by focusing on the dynamics of demand; the shifts in the rationalization of intensified treatment pathways in the face of new reimbursement practices; and the online, platform-based infrastructures that are built to provide these treatments. In doing so, it analyses how this remaking of fertility towards an ethos of proactive fertility management reflects broader capitalist tailwinds.
