    The 2005-2017 National Inpatient Sample was used to identify all pediatric admissions for gunshot wounds (GSW). Patients were stratified by International Classification of Diseases procedural codes for trauma-related operations. Annual trends in GSW hospitalizations and costs were analyzed with survey-weighted estimates. Multivariable regressions were used to identify factors associated with high-cost hospitalizations.

    During the study period, an estimated 36 283 pediatric patients were admitted for a GSW, with 43.1% undergoing an operative intervention during hospitalization. Admissions for pediatric firearm injuries decreased from 3246 in 2005 to 3185 in 2017 (NPtrend<.001). The median inflation-adjusted cost was $12 408 (IQR $6253-$24 585). Median costs rose significantly from $10 749 in 2005 to $16 157 in 2017 (P<.001). Compared with those who did not undergo surgical interventions, operative patients incurred increased median costs ($18 576 vs $8942, P<.001).     To evaluate the relationship between parental injury and illness and disorders of gut-brain interaction (DGBI) in children.

    A self-controlled case series using data from the Military Health System Data Repository compared International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision-identified DGBI-related outpatient visits and prescriptions in 442 651 children aged 3-16years in the 2years before and the 2years after the injury and/or illness of their military parent. Negative binomial regression was used to compare visit rates for constipation, fecal incontinence, abdominal pain, irritable bowel syndrome, and a composite of these before and after parental injury and/or illness. Logistic regression, clustered by child, compared the odds of stooling agent and antispasmodic prescription before and after parental injury and/or illness.

    In the 2years following parental injury and/or illness, children had increased visits for DGBIs (adjusted incidence rate ratio [aIRR] 1.09; 95% CI 1.07-1.10), constipation (aIRR 1.07; 95% CI 1.04-1.10), abdominal pain (aIRR 1.09; 95% CI 1.07-1.12), and irritable bowel syndrome (aIRR 1.37; 95% CI 1.19-1.58). Following parental injury and/or illness, the odds of stooling agent prescription decreased (aOR 0.95; 95% CI 0.93-0.97) and the odds of antispasmodic prescription increased (aOR 1.26; 95% CI 1.18-1.36).

    We searched PubMed/MEDLINE, CINAHL, Scopus, PsycINFO, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials for published articles (through November 2019) on pediatric asthma readmission risk factors. Two authors independently screened titles and abstracts and consensus was reached on disagreements. Full-text articles were reviewed and inclusion criteria applied. For articles meeting inclusion criteria, authors abstracted data on study design, patient characteristics, and outcomes, and 4 authors assessed bias risk.

    Of 5749 abstracts, 74 met inclusion criteria. Study designs, patient populations, and outcome measures were highly heterogeneous. check details Risk factors consistently associated with early readmissions (≤30days) included prolonged length of stay (OR range, 1.1-1.6) and chronic comorbidities (1.7-3.2). Risk factors associated with late readmissions (>30days) included female sex (1.1-1.6), chronic comorbidities (1.5-2), summer discharge (1.5-1.8), and prolonged length of stay (1.04-1.7).     To obtain a national overview of the epidemiology and management of invasive fungal infections (IFIs) in France for severely immunocompromised children who were treated for acute leukemia or had undergone allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (a-HSCT).

    We performed a national multicenter retrospective study to collect epidemiologic data for proven and probable IFIs in children with acute leukemia under first- line or relapse treatment or who had undergone a-HSCT. We also conducted a prospective practice survey to provide a national overview of IFI management in pediatrichematology units.

    From January 2014 to December 2017, 144 cases of IFI were diagnosed (5.3%) in 2721 patients, including 61 cases of candidiasis, 60 cases of aspergillosis, and 23 cases of infection with “emergent” fungi, including 10 cases of mucormycosis and 6 cases of fusariosis. The IFI rate was higher in patients with acute myelogenous leukemia (12.9%) (OR, 3.24; 95% CI, 2.15-4.81; P < .0001) compared with the rest of the cohort.
