    There are no conclusive reports that interventions based on VR are more effective than standard physical therapy. Moreover, evidence regarding patients after total hip arthroplasty (THA) is very scarce. The effectiveness of VR-based rehabilitation is unclear, although interventions based on VR are promising in view of pain management, postural and proprioception training. However, this evidence is not sufficient to create clinical guidelines and further high-quality studies are needed.Background and Objectives The opsoclonus-myoclonus syndrome (OMS) is characterised by opsoclons, myoclons and impaired balance, often concomitant with sleep disorder and behavioural difficulties. The symptoms develop as a result of autoimmune response triggered by a neuroblastic tumour (NT). OMS can also develop secondarily to a viral infection or as an immune response triggered by an unknown agent. This leads to the activation of B- and T-cells, which produce and release autoantibodies or cytokines directly within the central nervous system (CNS), thus damaging the neurons within the cerebellum and the brain stem. The available OMS treatments aim at decreasing lymphocyte, cytokine and autoantibody production or accelerating the utilisation of the latter. Another treatment option for OMS involves using cytostatic agents, which damage T- and B-cells causing their depletion and impaired function, which reduces their ability to produce antibodies and cytokines. Materials and Methods We present a single-centre experience in treating OMS secondary to NT in 7 children. Results The combined treatment with cyclophosphamide plus dexamethasone resulted in a complete resolution of OMS symptoms in 4 children, and a significant improvement in the 3 children. Two of them periodically present hyperactivity, and one girl requires an additional support at school due to special educational needs (SEN). Conclusions NT resection does not resolve OMS in children with OMS secondary to NT. The combined treatment with dexamethasone plus cyclophosphamide seems to be an effective treatment of OMS.A computational study of the structures and energetics of amine N-oxides, including pyridine N-oxides, trimethylamine N-oxide, bridgehead bicyclic amine N-oxides, and lactam N-oxides, allowed comparisons with published experimental data. Most of the computations employed the B3LYP/6-31G* and M06/6-311G+(d,p) models and comparisons were also made between the results of the HF 6-31G*, B3LYP/6-31G**, B3PW91/6-31G*, B3PW91/6-31G**, and the B3PW91/6-311G+(d,p) models. The range of calculated N-O bond dissociation energies (BDE) (actually enthalpies) was about 40 kcal/mol. Published thermochemical and computational (HF 6-31G*) data suggest that the BDE of PNO was only about 2 kcal/mol greater than that of TMAO. The higher IR frequency for N-O stretch in PNO and its shorter N-O bond length suggest a greater difference in BDE values, predicted at 10-14 kcal/mol in the present work. Determination of the enthalpy of sublimation of TMAO, or at least the enthalpy of fusion and estimation of the enthalpy of vaporization might solve this dichotomy. The “extra” resonance stabilization in pyridine N-oxide relative to pyridine was consistent with the 10-14 kcal/mol increase in BDE, relative to TMAO, and was about half the “extra” stabilization in phenoxide, relative to phenol or benzene. Most research into flow control has been focused on introducing delays. However, delaying the flow can be problematic due to increased evaporation leading to sample loss. We report the use of a CO2 laser to uniformly etch the surface of the paper to modify wicking speeds in paper-based microfluidic devices. This technique can produce both wicking speed increases of up to 1.1× faster and decreases of up to 0.9× slower. Wicking speeds can be further enhanced by etching both sides of the paper, resulting in wicking 1.3× faster than unetched channels. Channels with lengthwise laser-etched grooves were also compared to uniformly etched channels, with the most heavily grooved channels wicking 1.9× faster than the fastest double-sided etched channels. Furthermore, sealing both sides of the channel in packing tape results in the most heavily etched channels, single-sided, double-sided, and grooved, wicking over 13× faster than unetched channels. By selectively etching individual channels, different combinations of sequential fluid delivery can be obtained without altering any channel geometry.
