    The pharmacokinetics of doxycycline was investigated in lactating sheep and lambs after oral administration at a dose of 10 mg/kg. Concentrations in plasma and milk were assayed with HPLC-PDA analysis. Doxycycline penetrates into the milk, and levels (0.38 ± 0.21 μg/ml) were found 0.5 hr after the treatment. The results suggest that the lambs can be exposed to doxycycline by suckling milk from their treated mothers. Population pharmacokinetic analysis showed a positive relationship between age, which reflects the stage of development of rumen function, and clearance. Results indicated isolated contingency FAs produced differentiated responding for 1 or both functions for all 5 participants, and there were little to no differences between treatments informed by isolated and synthesized contingency FAs. © 2020 Society for the Experimental Analysis of Behavior.A 6-year-old, spayed female, mixed shorthair cat presented to the emergency service at The Ohio State University Veterinary Medical Center for evaluation of hypercalcemia, a right eye mass, and multiple intrathoracic and intra-abdominal masses. Cytologic evaluation of one of the abdominal masses revealed a uniform population of large, anaplastic mesenchymal cells found individually, in loose aggregates, and occasionally associated with pink, extracellular matrix. The cytology was consistent with a malignant mesenchymal neoplasm, with primary consideration given to fibrosarcoma and hemangiosarcoma. The cat was euthanized and histopathology confirmed disseminated fibrosarcoma. Fibrosarcoma comprises 12%-41% of feline cutaneous tumors and affects cats at a mean age of 9.6 years. Three manifestations of fibrosarcoma predominate in cats spontaneous solitary fibrosarcoma, vaccine-induced/injection site fibrosarcoma, and oncogene-induced (FSV) fibrosarcoma. The history, signalment, and results from diagnostics performed did not support solitary fibrosarcoma or injection-induced sarcoma. Although some criteria fit with virally induced fibrosarcoma, such as age and the presence of multiple fibrosarcomas, the neoplastic population was negative for FeLV IHC. The presence of fibrosarcomas throughout the pleural and peritoneal cavity was most compatible with sarcomatosis and the distant metastasis of an unidentified primary neoplasm. Based on age assessment using sagittal otoliths, the age-specific demographic characteristics of four deepwater snappers, Eteis coruscans, Paracaesio caerulea, Pristipomoides filamentosus, and Pristipomoides sieboldii, in the Okinawa Islands, southwestern Japan, were examined, and the results were discussed for fishery management. Age validation using edge-type analysis demonstrated that opaque zones in all species were formed once per year and were considered valid annual growth increments. The von Bertalanffy growth equations were also determined for each species. These snappers are long-lived (>50 years for E. coruscans and P. caerulea and > 30 years for the two species of Pristipomoides) and relatively slow-growing. The age of acquiring sexual maturity in females was relatively later in E. coruscans, P. caerulea, and P. filamentosus than in P. sieboldii. The results revealed differences in the biological traits among these four species; E. coruscans and P. caerulea with long lifespans and late maturation are particularly more vulnerable to fishing impact than the two Pristipomoides species. We therefore recommend that further approaches to decrease and control fishing intensity, such as networking of marine protected areas and regulation to control the numbers of boats and/or the total allowable catch, are necessary for management of the stock of these species, especially for E. coruscans and P. caerulea. All rights reserved.Neutrophil infiltration is a hallmark of peritoneal inflammation, but mechanisms regulating neutrophil recruitment in patients with peritoneal dialysis (PD)-related peritonitis are not fully defined. We examined 104 samples of PD effluent collected during acute peritonitis for correspondence between a broad range of soluble parameters and neutrophil counts. We observed an association between peritoneal IL-17 and neutrophil levels. This relationship was evident in effluent samples with low but not high IFN-γ levels, suggesting a differential effect of IFN-γ concentration on neutrophil infiltration. Surprisingly, there was no association of neutrophil numbers with the level of CXCL1, a key IL-17-induced neutrophil chemoattractant. We investigated therefore the production of CXCL1 by human peritoneal mesothelial cells (HPMCs) under in vitro conditions mimicking clinical peritonitis. Stimulation of HPMCs with IL-17 increased CXCL1 production through induction of transcription factor SP1 and activation of the SP1-binding region of the CXCL1 promoter.
