Path of Exile Item Upgrading

Players can upgrade their weapons and equipment with new affixes. They can also boost the base stats of the item or provide additional benefits. To upgrade item s, the player must have the item in their inventory and have access to the kiln.

Items that have weak bases, such as rings can be upgraded to more robust bases. Items with bases that are strong, such as the Titans of eth have little changes in their stats.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components can be incorporated into trinkets, weapons, armor and tools for gathering, offering an attribute bonus or additional impact when the equipment is in use. They can be bought from vendors, found in loot, thrown away by enemies, or obtained as rewards from missions or chests. Some upgrades can have additional cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be at a certain level to upgrade.

To upgrade an item of armor, the player has to choose it and click on the Upgrade button on the toolbar. This will show a preview on the right side of the screen that shows what the expected upgrade stats will be as well as the material or component needed for the upgrade to take place.

There are three types that are universal upgrades (which include gems) prefix upgrades and suffix upgrade components. Universal upgrades, which include gems, can be put in any kind of equipment and offer less bonuses than upgrade components that are type-restricted. Infusions are jewels that are only available in equipment that is legendary or ascended. They provide the same benefits as jewels, but cannot be used with any other equipment. In the case of upgrades to gather tools, if a player replaces one glyph with another the old glyph will be returned to the inventory. If you replace any other upgrade component the item will be destroyed, with the exception for the inscriptions, which can be freely swapped.

Leveling

Path of Exile’s upgrade process is different from previous versions in several key ways. Gear is now classified into tracks and each item can only be upgraded a certain number of times before it’s “leveled out.” The cost of upgrading increases with each level, but the materials required do not. This allows players to concentrate their efforts on a few important items to maximize their impact instead of spreading the cost of upgrades across several pieces.

This will allow the item to receive new upgrade components and a higher chance of success. This bonus is known as the Artisan’s Energy, and it is reset to 0 on failure or increases when the upgrade is successful.

When a piece is upgraded to its highest level, it is able to get affixes to boost its attributes. The number of affixes available is determined by the item’s type. For instance, a rare or unique weapon with a normal base will have only two affixes for it, while legendary armors will have up to eight affixes available for it.

Each upgrade requires the use of a certain amount of Flightstones and crests to complete depending on the current level of the item and the slot it’s in. Weapons usually require more Flightstones than other equipment.

If an item does not reach its maximum level, the NPC grants the player the option to transfer it to a new character and re-infuse the item with a different set of upgrades. The process can take as long as two hours and costs the same amount of materials, though it will have less chance of success.

Rerolling

To determine if an item is worth upgrading, players must click the Upgrade button on their screen for their character. The item will be displayed with its features, as well as the necessary items required to upgrade it. For example, the No-mouth Face will require 1.1K Scrap Materials, 250 Enchanted Dust and 5 Glowing Shards to upgrade. Generally speaking, weapons and jewelry offer more value for trade when they are fully upgraded than armor. Especially for weapons that have damage glyphs for spells or weapons and are upgraded to gold is recommended because it will result in a significant improvement in their stats. This will also boost the defense of armor with an updated look.
