This study established and validated a simple and sensitive analytical approach for determining pinoxaden residues in soil. The dissipation and adsorption-desorption of pinoxaden in four kinds of Chinese soil were comprehensively investigated for the first time, and the possible metabolic products and pathways were identified. The developed method was successfully applied in dissipation and adsorption-desorption trials. Several influential factors, including temperature, organic matter, and moisture content, affected the dissipation rate of pinoxaden in soil. During the dissipation process, 1 hydrolytic intermediate and 13 possible transformation products were identified, and predicted metabolic pathways were composed of electron rearrangement, oxidation, cyclization, carboxylation, and so on. Both the adsorption and desorption isotherms of pinoxaden in four kinds of Chinese soil followed the Freundlich equation, and the Freundlich Kf values were positively correlated with the soil cation exchange capacity. According to the calculated Gibbs free energies, the adsorption of pinoxaden was an endothermic reaction and mainly a physical process. These results could provide some useful data for the determination of pinoxaden in other matrices and the evaluation of the environmental fate of pinoxaden in soil and other ecosystems.

The purpose of this study was to quantify location and direction-dependent variations in the 3D modulation transfer function (MTF) of a high-resolution CT scanner with selectable focal spot sizes and resolution modes.

The Aquilion Precision CT scanner (Canon Medical Systems) has selectable 0.25mm or 0.5mm detectors (by binning) in both the axial (x-y) and detector array width (z) directions. For the x-y and z orientations, detectors are configured (x-y)=0.5 mm/(z)=0.5mm for normal resolution (NR), 0.25/0.5mm for high resolution (HR), and 0.25/0.25mm for super high resolution (SHR). Six focal spots (FS1-FS6) range in size from 0.4 (x-y)×0.5mm (z) for FS1 to 1.6×1.4mm for FS6. Phantoms fabricated from spherical objects were positioned at radial distances of 0, 4.0, 7.5, 11.0, 14.5, and 18.5cm. Axial and helical acquisitions were utilized and reconstructed using filtered back projection with the FC18 “Body,” FC30 “Bone,” and FC81 “Bone Sharp” kernels. The reconstructions were used to measure a 1D slice of thifying the advantages of different resolution modes and focal spot sizes on the axial-plane and longitudinal MTF. Reconstruction kernels were shown to impact axial-plane resolution, imparting non-isotropic 3D resolution characteristics. Focal spot size (both in x-y and in z) and gantry rotation time play important roles in preserving the high-resolution characteristics throughout the field of view for this new high-resolution CT scanner technology.

Alginate lyases (EC 4.4.2.3/4.4.2.11) have been applied to produce alginate oligosaccharides, which have physiological advantages such as prebiotic and antidiabetic effects, and are of benefit in the food and pharmaceutical industries. Extracellular production of recombinant proteins in Escherichia coli presents advantages including simplified downstream processing and high productivity; however, the presence of certain signal peptides does not always ensure successful secretion, which make the extracellular production of alginate lyase in E. coli rarely reported but of great significance.

A PL7 family alginate lyase, Aly01, with its native signal peptide from Vibrio natriegens SK42.001, was identified, characterized, and extracellularly expressed in E. coli. The enzyme specifically released trisaccharide from alginate and was strictly NaCl activated. Green fluorescent protein (GFP) was fused with the Aly01 signal peptide and successfully secreted in E. coli to expand the feasibility of using this signal ular production of other heterologous proteins in E. coli. © 2021 Society of Chemical Industry. This study clarified the advantages of virtual communities on non-victim experiences among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA) individuals in Japan. A total of 3504 Pigg Party users, including 1390 LGBTQIA individuals, reported their experiences of victimization, perceived emotional support, and concealment of their gender/sexual identity in both physical and virtual communities. Japanese individuals with multiple minority statuses had more victim experiences than those with a single or without minority status. Furthermore, differences in victim experiences by gender/sexual minority status were lower in the virtual community than in physical communities. Similar tendencies were also confirmed on perceived emotional support and concealment. Virtual communities provided a more bias-free social resource to Japanese LGBTQIA individuals than physical communities. The epidemiology and mycology of invasive candidiasis in the ICU is well-described in certain types of critically ill patients but not in others. One population that has been scarcely studied is non-neutropenic patients admitted specifically to medical ICUs. Even less is known about the broader category of medical ICU patients without active oncological disease. 2-Deoxy-D-glucose nmr This group constitutes a very large share of the patients requiring critical care across the globe, especially in the era of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. We analysed medical ICU candidaemia episodes that occurred in non-oncological patients in our tertiary academic centre in the United States from May 2014 to October 2020 to determine the incidence and species distribution of the associated isolates. We then separately considered non-COVID-19 and COVID-19 cases and compared their characteristics. In the non-COVID-19 group, there were 38 cases for an incidence of 1.1% and rate of 11/1000 admissions. In the COVID-19 group, there were 12 cases for an incidence of 5.1% and rate of 51/1000 admissions. In the entire sample, as well as separately in the non-COVID-19 and COVID-19 groups,Candida albicans accounted for a minority of isolates. Compared to non-COVID-19 patients with candidaemia, COVID-19 patients had lower ICU admission SOFA score but longer ICU length of stay and central venous catheter dwell time at candidaemia detection. This study provides valuable insight into the incidence and species distribution of candidaemia cases occurring in non-oncological critically ill patients and identifies informative differences between non-COVID-19 and COVID-19 patients.
