    To document the development and clinician evaluation of a psychoeducational and support tool the return to work after traumatic brain injury app (RTW after TBI app). Co-design of the app involved the collaboration of traumatic brain injury (TBI) /vocational rehabilitation (VR) expert researchers (n = 4) and lived experience co-designers (individuals with TBI who had previously returned to work; n = 4). Twelve TBI/VR clinician reviewers then evaluated the app. Content analysis of TBI/VR clinician reviewers’ interviews revealed four themes content, usability (functional ease of use), utility (applicability to RTW after TBI) and suggestions for improvements. All clinicians reported that they would use the RTW after TBI app in their clinical practice. Although several aspects were reported to potentially limit the app’s appropriateness for some TBI clients, many feasible improvements were suggested to address limitations. These improvements aim to increase the utility of the app with a wider range of clients and extend its use to other settings. However, it has not been well characterized whether cell culture isolate and the virus in clinical sample are equivalent. This study compared PRRSV ORF5 sequences from 1024 clinical samples (995 PRRSV-2, 26 PRRSV-1, and three PRRSV-1 and PRRSV-2 PCR-positive) and their isolates in MARC-145 and/or ZMAC cells. For three PRRSV-1 and PRRSV-2 PCR-positive clinical samples, both PRRSV-1 and PRRSV-2 were isolated in ZMAC cells, whereas either PRRSV-1 or PRRSV-2, but not both, was isolated in MARC-145 cells, with isolate sequences matching the respective viruses in clinical samples. Twenty-six PRRSV-1 and most of 995 PRRSV-2 PCR-positive clinical samples had matching viral ORF5 sequences with their cell culture isolates. However, 14 out of 995 PRRSV-2 cases (1.4%) had nonmatching viral sequences between clinical samples and MAducing autogenous vaccines or other applications.

    The 8-Foot Up and Go (8UG) test is a widely used mobility assessment. Some dual-task mobility assessments have been developed to help detect cognitive decline.

    This study developed a dual-task version of 8UG test to investigate the dual-task 8UG performance and to evaluate the ability of dual-task 8UG test in detecting cognitive decline.

    A total of 101 eligible community-dwelling women aged 60-74years were grouped into the mild cognitive impairment group (MCI, n = 49) and the non-cognitive impairment group (NCI, n = 52). The 8UG tests under single-task (ST), manual dual-task (MT), and cognitive dual-task (CT) conditions were performed respectively. The dual-task cost (DTC) and the correct response rate (CRR) were calculated to quantify the dual-task interference.

    Participants spent more time in performing the 8UG test under dual-task conditions. No differences were observed between NCI and MCI groups for 8UG parameters under ST and MT conditions (p > 0.05). When executing CT, significant differences were found in the number of correct answers and CRR (p < 0.05). CRR showed the strongest ability to predict MCI with a cut-off point of 0.50 (71.2% sensitivity and 61.2% specificity).

    Both manual and cognitive dual-task were found to interfere with the 8UG performance. CRR with cutoff point of 0.50 could be a potential predictor of MCI in community-dwelling older women.

Cold stress slows down and even stops plant growth and development and causes injuries that may result in the plant’s death. Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.), an economically important vegetable, is sensitive to low temperatures, thus improving cold tolerance in cucumber would benefit cucumber producers, particularly those farming in temperate climates and higher altitude areas. So far, single cucumber accessions showing different degrees of cold tolerance have been identified, and genetic studies have revealed biparentally and maternally inherited genetic factors responsible for chilling tolerance. Paternally transmitted chilling tolerance has also been suggested. Quantitative trait loci (QTL) associated with seed germination ability at low temperature and seedling recovery from chilling have been described. Several transgenic attempts have been made to improve cold tolerance in cucumber. Despite numerous studies, the molecular mechanisms of cold tolerance in cucumber have still not been sufficiently elucidated. In this review, we summarise the results of research focused on understanding the genetic basis of cold tolerance in cucumber and their implications for cucumber breeding.

    Ottawa Public Health (OPH) provides public health programming and services in the Ottawa region. At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, the OPH COVID-19 Case and Contact Management Team was established to help manage the spread of COVID-19 and support individuals who test positive, and their close contacts.

    In order to guide and support the COVID-19 Case and Contact Management Team, the COVID-19 Strategic Support Team implemented an anonymous internal communication tool called the COVID-19 Case Management Forum. Case and Contact Management employees were invited to submit their questions, concerns, and words of encouragement on the forum, and the COVID-19 Strategic Support Team routinely replied to forum submissions via team email.

    Qualitative analyses of employee forum submissions revealed 6 main themes and 31 unique sub-themes related to questions, concerns, and feelings that arose throughout this pandemic response. Recurrent themes emerged relating to process questions, communication challenges, solution generation, and feelings of frustration. Summative content analyses of the COVID-19 Strategic Support team’s replies demonstrated 6 main answer types explaining procedures, identifying resources, explaining rationales, human resource explanations, sharing employee feedback with relevant parties, and creating practice tools.

    The online forum tool was developed and implemented early in the pandemic response to provide key insights into OPH’s public health workforce needs and well-being throughout the COVID-19 response. The forum encouraged open dialogue and provided opportunities to establish clarity in a time of rapid situational change.

In this commentary, we will demonstrate how a process called pharmaceuticalization is informing the new guidelines. We join those questioning the normalization of industry and medical collaboration and interrogate whether the new guidelines meaningfully address stigma.Social science research has focused on hot spots of adolescent violence in marginalized urban neighborhoods for nearly a century. In contrast, in this study, we explore under-resourced urban areas that do not experience high rates of adolescent violence “pockets of peace.” We use a mixed-method approach to identify the sociodemographic, geographic, and criminological commonalities and differences between pockets of peace and other areas of concentrated disadvantage dealing with high rates of adolescent violence in Indianapolis, IN. More than one out of every ten of Indianapolis’ areas of concentrated disadvantage meet the criteria to be labeled “pockets of peace.” Quantitative data indicate that these areas have fewer prosocial institutions and experience lower homeownership rates than comparison under-resourced areas, and qualitative data point toward rental stability and residential longevity as potentially salient social factors within these contexts. As an alternative to using statistics to control for the context of structural disadvantage, studying pockets of peace and other “cold-spots” of adolescent violence presents an opportunity to understand community-level resilience within the real, lived context of structural disadvantage.The continuing emergence of new SARS-CoV-2 variants has perpetuated the current pandemic far beyond initial expectations. It is now likely that this virus is here to stay. Thus, a new infrastructure is required for monitoring and tracking of viral outbreaks which includes epidemiological and genomic surveillance. More effective monitoring will support rapid response times required for development of new treatments and vaccines to help manage the spread of the current virus and prepare the platforms required for future pandemics.There is still an urgent need to develop effective treatments to help minimize the cases of severe COVID-19. A number of tools have now been developed and applied to address these issues, such as the use of non-contrast chest computed tomography (CT) for evaluation and grading of the associated lung damage. Here we used a deep learning approach for predicting the outcome of 1078 patients admitted into the Baqiyatallah Hospital in Tehran, Iran, suffering from COVID-19 infections in the first wave of the pandemic. These were classified into two groups of non-severe and severe cases according to features on their CT scans with accuracies of approximately 0.90. We suggest that incorporation of molecular and/or clinical features, such as multiplex immunoassay or laboratory findings, will increase accuracy and sensitivity of the model for COVID-19 -related predictions.
