The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between health care professionals’ perception of the quality of care, attitudes of family involvement and their own sense of coherence. A descriptive quantitative study with fifty-six health professionals, completed “Quality in Psychiatric Care-Community Outpatient Psychiatric Staff”, “Families’ Importance in Nursing Care-health professionals’ attitudes”, “The Sense of Coherence Scale-13”. The health professionals perceived quality as high and did not perceive the families as a burden.It is essential that medical education should be equally representative of our society and subsequently the population that we will be serving as practicing physicians. As doctors, we have a duty of care to all members of our community. To align with these values, medical teaching should prepare future physicians to be able to treat patients from all backgrounds and ethnicities. After reflecting on medical education in the current global climate it is evident that there is unfortunately still a lack of ethnically diverse examples of clinical case presentations in medical education resources. This leads to students being ill-prepared in diagnosing certain illnesses in BAME patients which could result in a delay of treatment. It also causes BAME medical students to feel less included and acknowledged in the medical curriculum and can manifest in feelings of isolation and reduced self-worth.
High intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) is clinically accepted for the treatment of solid tumors but remains challenging in highly perfused tissue due to the heat sink effect. Endovascular liquid-core sonosensitizers have been previously suggested to enhance the thermal energy deposition at the focal area and to lower the near-/far-field heating. We are investigating the therapeutic potential of PFOB-FTAC micro-droplets in a perfused tissue-mimicking model and postmortem excised organs.
A custom-made
perfused tissue-mimicking model, freshly excised pig kidneys (
= 3) and liver (
= 1) were perfused and subjected to focused ultrasound generated by an MR-compatible HIFU transducer. PFOB-FTAC sonosensitizers were injected in the perfusion fluid up to 0.235% v/v ratio. Targeting and on-line PRFS thermometry were performed on a 3 T MR scanner. Assessment of the fluid perfusion was performed with pulsed color Doppler

Some authors found that delayed repair of Achilles tendon ruptures achieved similar functional outcomes when compared with acute repair of Achilles tendon ruptures. The purpose of our study was to compare functional outcomes and complication rates of acute repair to delayed repair after Achilles tendon ruptures.
PubMed, Embase (Ovid) and the Cochrane Library were searched.
For Achilles tendon rupture score (ATRS), the overall result revealed that there was no significant difference in ATRS between acute repair groups and delayed repair groups (
= 0.59). For Tegner scores, Halasi scores and Achilles tendon resting angle (ATRA), there was no significant difference between the two groups (
= 0.28,
= 0.47 and
= 0.68). There was no significant difference in the subjective assessment between acute repair groups and delayed repair groups (

Given the risks of inadvertent doping associated with dietary supplement (DS) use, it is critical to explore the extent of dependence of varsity athletes on DS to improve performance and support recovery. The purpose of this study was to gain insight into dietary supplementation practices among varsity athletes in a university setting in Ontario, Canada.
An online DS use questionnaire was completed by 302 varsity athletes (30.5% male, 69.5% female; 20.5 ± 1.8-year old) who were competing in intermittent, power and endurance-based sports at the University of Guelph. The data from supplement users were analyzed using a Chi-square analysis to investigate type of DS consumption, frequency of use and reasons for use.
Overall, 58.3% of athletes reported having used at least one type of DS in the past six months. Gender and age had significant associations with prevalence of DS use, with male athletes and athletes over 20-year old being more likely to be DS users. The most frequently reported reasons for consuming DS were to maintain good health, increase energy, promote recovery, correct or prevent micronutrient deficiencies and supply convenient forms of energy and/or macronutrients. Although, most athletes were using reliable sources of information, health care professionals, 58.6% still mentioned wanting to become more knowledgeable about DS.
Findings from this study may guide the development of educational materials needed to address knowledge gaps on DS among varsity athletes.
